ABI'S ANIMALS

Hi, I'm Abi Houston and I started Abi's Animals!  Welcome to my website!!

 

What inspired me to start Abi's Animals was going to Peru last year with Hearts With Hope.  They are an organizatoin that helps the children of Peru who have problems with their hearts.  There are different jobs within Hearts With Hope - the surgical team, the dental team, and the humanitarian team.  I was part of the humanitarian team also know as outreach.  During outreach, we went to orphanages and schools to check if the kids had any problems with their hearts or teeth. After their hearts and teeth were checked I gave the kids a little goody bag.  The goody bag contained, a water bottle, a lotion, and a stuffed animal.  The kids REALLY loved the stuffed animals.  We would work all day at outreach and then we were exhausted!  Even though we were so exhausted we had a ton of fun with the kids!  

 

After I got back from Peru, I wanted to think of a way that I could help get more stuffed animals to Peru.  I figured out that a lot of kids in the Palisades are like me.....they have stuffed animals sitting in their toy box that they don't use anymore.  So, I started my charity called Abi's Animals and enlisted my brother to help me coordinate everything about Abi's Animals Outreach.  He also helped me with everything and I could not have done this without him.  We wrote an article for the Palisades Post letting the community know what we needed.  We washed and painted an old beer barrel to say "Abi's Animals" on it. We put it in front of our school and asked the students to donate their used stuffed animals.  After a couple of kids donated some stuffed animals, the rest followed.  Soon, we had to empty out the barrel every day!!!  Thanks to the kids at Palisades Elementary school and other kids in the community, we collected thousands stuffed animals. As Sam figured out where to send our animals, I worked on getting them ready for their new forever home. 

 

The collection of the animals was so successful, that I would love to continue collecting and distribute Abi's Animals across the globe!!
